Brick City Entrepreneurship Training is a one-month,
part-time bootcamp that trains multicultural entrepreneurs in foundational entrepreneurial
skills to become a high-growth, technology startup founder or a main-street, small business
founder.

This program supports individuals who are multicultural in the high-technology
entrepreneurial community. This includes women, people of color,vets, and LGBTQ+
individuals

COURSE OVERVIEW

The Brick City Entrepreneurship Training Program will kickoff on
Thursday, July 7th with a 9am breakfast event. Program participants will
get an opportunity to network with one another, meet the team, review
the program plan and key dates, as well as enjoy breakfast with
fellow entrepreneurs.

Educational Modules – None

The week of July 11th is all asynchronous learning, specifically two, foundational entrepreneurial principles like Lean Startup Methodology and market research. The educational modules and their associated activities are to be completed by the end of the week, at which point you will be eligible to sign-up for a 1:1 mentoring session with Chelsea, Will, or Jonathan.

The week of July 18th brings the entrepreneur to the discussion of customer discovery via the asynchronous learning platform, as well as an in-person opportunity and chance to hear real-life stories about entrepreneurial successes and challenges.

Objective: Real-life stories of obstacles and successes in entrepreneurship

Module: Customer Discovery – taught by William Lutz, GM Entrepreneurship at NJII

The week of July 25th will provide entrepreneurs an opportunity for in-person elevator pitch practice and an educational module focused on business model options and strategy.

In-Person Event – Elevator Pitches (Lunch Provided)

Objective: Learn elevator pitch format, learn from the best, and practice your own pitch

Date/Time: Thursday, July 28th from noon – 1pm

Module: Business Models – taught by Jonathan Collins, Community Manager at =SPACE

The week of August 1st is all asynchronous learning with a focus on assembling a pitch deck and learning the basics in startup/small business finance. After completing the modules and activities associated with this week’s educational modules, the entrepreneurs will have an opportunity to signup for 1:1 Pitch practice training with Will, Chelsea, and Jonathan.

Module: Assembling Your Pitch Deck – taught by Kelly Outing, Community Manager at =SPACE

The week of August 8th is an opportunity to refine your pitch and practice 1:1 with the Venture Link and =SPACE mentors. The program team will select a maximum of 10, 3-minute pitches to present at the following week’s celebration and pitch event. Entrepreneurs will be selected based on how well formed their idea is and how well they’re able to communicate the opportunity in 3-minutes or less.

The week of August 18th marks the end of the Brick City Entrepreneurship training program. We will end the program with an in-person celebration and pitch event hosted at VentureLink. Invite GNEC, Invest Newark
